Private house at Ano Poli, Thessaloniki

The house, for an architect and a writer, is located at an inclined site, at Ano Poli in Thessaloniki. It is developed in two levels and it has a general shape of a L form. The entrance and the volume of the architects office create the base where the rest of the building stands. The main volume at the north side is two storeys high while the one on east side remained one storey high in order to allow the view to the neighbor buildings. On the west side the main feature of the design is the large glass wall and the wooden vertical elements which are blocking the sun while they are allowing the view from the inside. On the east side there is an exta volume that is “hanging ” over the rest of the building. It is orientated towards the city walls and through it’s large glass wall someone can appreciate the view. On the east side, out side the bedroom, the sunshade retains the geometry of the vertical element but is made of concrete. A wooden sliding part can adjust the amound of light that enters the room. The rooftop of the office area, which can be reached from the house, plays the role of a yard. Horizontal wooden parts around the yard can be used either as steps or a place to sit.
The interior has the felling of a continuous space. The living room can be seen from the second floor through a small balcony. The bedroom is connecting to the rest of the house by a small corridor creating the feeling of a single space. The main bathroom is also designed in a way that seems to be part of the bedroom. The dining room on the second floor has a direct connection, visibly, with the kitchen on the first floor. A large window is allowing the view to the city walls and is also connecting the dining room with a balcony blending inside with outside space.
